LEO Data and Product Processing SW Engineer  (ab 01.08.2010)

Since 1989 BITWORKS offers IT consultancy, software development and system/network support to international customers from industry, authorities and organisations.

To complete the existing MED LEO Data Processing Team at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, we are looking for a well experienced full-time LEO Data and Product Processing SW Engineer.

 Ihre Aufgaben

In particular the tasks will include:

  • Maintenance and development of the product processing facility software;
  • Support the reception of software externally developed, its installation, configuration and
    testing.
  • Contribute to the building and distribution of software releases and patches;
  • Perform the system integration activities and the system verification testing;
  • Investigation into anomalies, their documentation and classification. Follow up of the
    delivery of S/W corrections.
  • Participation in technical meetings and formal reviews.
  • Analysis of the maintenance requirements and identification, procurement or
    implementation of the tools to fulfil them. Writing of maintenance procedures.
  • Interfacing with external contractors who are providing maintenance services for ground
    segment facilities.
  • Provide on call support in a team of engineers for the maintained systems

 Ihr Profil

In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, the
Consultant shall have experience in S/W development, configuration controlled software
build environments and experience with the operation or maintenance in large, real-time data
processing systems.

The Consultant shall have a significant work experience in UNIX application development and
testing in C, C++ and Fortran. Experience in the field of meteorological satellite data processing
would be a distinct advantage.

Knowledge and experience of the following programming languages and software tools and
methods is mandatory:

  • Software build environments and tools (e.g. make, imake, debuggers, insure++)
  • Source Code control system, preferably Subversion or CVS;
  • Configuration Control tools and methods;
  • C/C++ and Fortran programming language;
  • Very good communication, presentation and team working skills combined with the
    ability to perform under very high workloads;
  • The ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and obtain a system overview;

Practical knowledge of as many as possible of the following areas will be an advantage:

  • Data visualisation tools, e.g. IDL, ENVI;
  • Experience in product processing using meteorological satellite data;
  • Experience in using UNIX threads;
  • Formalised Software Testing;

The variety of the tasks and the scope of the systems to be supported require a high degree of
autonomy and good analytical skills.

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for
the position is English and therefore consultant must be able to work effectively in this
language and have a knowledge of the other.
