Satellite Launcher Engineer  (ab 01.07.2010)

Since 1989 BITWORKS offers IT consultancy, software development and system/network support to international customers from industry, authorities and organisations.

To complete the existing System Engineering Support Division at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, we are looking for a well experienced full-time Satellite Launcher Engineer.

 Ihre Aufgaben

The consultant shall provide expertise on Launcher-Satellite interface issues all along the Launcher selection and Launch preparation phases, assessing overall interface compatibilityand readiness status of launch vehicles and carrying out specific studies or analysis where requested.

The consultant shall also take part in the coordination of the operational support to the
Launch, to this aim he/she could be sent frequently on mission and he/she could be located on
Launch Site for the duration of the Launch Campaign.

In particular, among the main duties, the consultant will:

  • Perform or support specific studies related to launch vehicle characteristics or launch
    missions;
  • Support the consolidation and tracking of the requirements for the launch service /
    satellite interface. These requirements include all mechanical, electrical and
    environmental interfaces together with launcher performances;
  • Support or coordinate the preparation of all launch related activities, including
    preparation of reviews and participation in Reviews/launch campaign;
  • Support the processing and controlling of all anomalies, non-conformances, waivers
    and deviations encountered during the procurement process up to the end of the
    launch mission;
  • Provide support and expertise in the area of Launcher engineering as it maybe
    requested for different programs in which EUMETSAT is involved.

The specific tasks assigned to the Consultant will be agreed through dedicated work-packages
with clear identification of activities and outputs expected.

In the performance of these tasks, the consultant shall apply the relevant organisational and
programmatic quality management procedures as well as the relevant engineering standards
and working practices.

 Ihr Profil

The Consultant shall have a university degree in Aerospace Engineering or equivalent
qualification in relevant discipline, with a proved knowledge and experience in Launch
Systems and related issues. In particular, the following experience/job skills are sought:

  • Minimum of 7 years relevant experience in space / launcher technology;
  • Experience in the implementation of a launch service, and preparation/execution of
    launch campaigns;
  • Very good knowledge of launch related topics among: Trajectories and Launch
    Mission Analysis, Flight Dynamics, EMC, Vibrations, Propulsion, satellite Launch
    Campaign activities and tests;
  • Experience in implementing Quality and management processes;

The consultant shall demonstrate organisational and management skills to fulfil coordination
tasks assigned during the execution of Launch Campaigns.

Experience in Satellite Launch Campaign activities would be an asset.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a proven ability to apply these to
interactions within a team and between teams are required.

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for
the position is English and therefore the consultant must be able to work effectively in this
language. Proficiency in French will be considered an advantage.
