To complete the existing Meteorological Operations Division (MOD) at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, we are looking for a well experienced full-time Meteorological Product Operations Support Engineer.

Operational schedules
Associated monitoring & reporting systems
Ingestion software for the geophysical statistical databases
Software to derive statistical information from the geophysical statistical databases
Product analysis software
Associated visualisation software
In addition the tasks of the Consultant will include:
Monitoring and operating the product generation facilities
Support to the product validation activities of new and improved products, and to the
compilation of the relevant product validation reports.
Preparation and production of routine reports as necessary.
Ihr Profil
In addition to having a university degree, or equivalent, in relevant field, the Consultant shall
have minimum of 3 years of experience in product operations. Knowledge concerning the
processing of remote sensing data will be an advantage.
Furthermore, the Consultant has to have knowledge in the following areas:
Operational Environments, including procedure development and validation
Source code control systems, including Clear Case and Subversion
ORACLE database programming
Programming languages C and/or Fortran, PV-Wave/IDL
Processing functions for product extraction from satellite data
Microsoft Office 2007
Practical knowledge of the following tools/products will be of advantage:
Structured software development and validation of application software in UNIX
environments (Solaris, Linux, AIX) according to coding standards
Experience in using common meteorological data formats (e.g. BUFR, GRIB, HDF5)
The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner,
shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the
minimum of supervision. The Consultant shall be expected to work in a team and may be
called upon to present his/her work, therefore good communication skills are a necessity.
The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for
the position is English and therefore the Consultant must be able to work effectively in this
language and have knowledge of the other.
