As a member of a storage network infrastructure team, the Consultant shall provide support to the
development and maintenance of storage network infrastructure with special focus on storage
service provision to EPS and backup and recovery services to EPS. The duties include the
administration and operation of the central backup systems, maintenance of the external
storage inventory and support to the administration and operation of the storage services.

The Consultant shall perform the following tasks:

• ensuring reliable backups to meet operational and data recovery requirements
  
• installation and administration of storage units, media rotation methods and media tape
  configuration;
  
• troubleshooting in the frame of backup and recovery, new server and client installations,
  media, system, network or device problems;
  
• handling offsite storage, ensuring consistent inventory information;
  
• monitoring of the system performance, status and alerts, investigation into H/W and
  system S/W problems and performance of the relevant corrective actions;
  
• ensuring that in case of H/W or system S/W failures the operational configuration can be
  restored, including the definition, maintenance, performance of backup procedures;
  
• liaison with the external providers of H/W and system S/W maintenance for the request
  and follow up of maintenance interventions;
  
• implementation and maintenance procedures where applicable for the automated and/or
  controlled execution of the above activities, generation or update of technical
  documentation;
  
• provision of stand-by/on-call support;
  
• provision of support, as required, to critical operations.
  

In the performance of the activities the Consultant shall apply the relevant change control and
maintenance procedures.

The consultant shall have good knowledge and experience on backup and recovery strategies,
handling of archive technologies and administration of data protection systems. The
experience should have been made in an operational or production environment, characterized
by custom applications in addition to standard software, running both on the client and server
side, and by high availability requirements.

The Consultant shall have a significant work experience on the UNIX Solaris operating system
and should be familiar, to the extent required by the performance of the above tasks, with as
many as possible of the following:

• Implementation of backup and recovery solutions using Veritas Netbackup;
  
• Automated, tape library systems (ADIC and Overland Series);
  
• Sun servers and workstation;
  
• Solaris 9 Operating System;
  

Experience in the administration and troubleshooting on some of the following shall be
considered as an advantage:

• Hierarchical Storage Management (HSM) systems (Veritas Storage Migrator);
  
• Storage Area Networking architectures (topologies, fibre channel, storage management
  and security);
  
• IBM AIX Operating System;
  
• TCP/IP internetworking and the related network protocols and applications, e.g NIS, NFS,
  DNS, SNMP, FTP;
  

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for
the position is English and therefore the consultant must be able to work effectively in this
language and have a knowledge of the other.
