Since 1989 BITWORKS offers IT consultancy, software development and system/network support to international customers from industry, authorities and organisations.

To complete the existing CCD Instrument Data Processing Team at EUMETSAT in Darmstadt, we are looking for a well experienced full-time Instrument Data Processing Engineering Support (LEO).

 Ihre Aufgaben

The tasks of the Consultant will typically include:

  • Supporting routine and special operations involving the EPS instrument data processing
    facilities: the Front End Processor (FEP) and the Product Generation Facility (PGF)
    · Monitoring and reporting on the performance of the EPS instrument data processing
    facilities and the quality and availability of the EPS Level 0 products
    · Investigating anomalies relating to the performance of the EPS instrument data
    processing facilities and to the quality and availability of the EPS Level 0 products
    · Preparing and reviewing technical documentation relating to EPS instrument data
    processing operations
    · Preparing and validating ground segment operations procedures and databases
    · Preparing reports
  • Supporting the further development of the EPS instrument data processing facilities,
    including the specification of system updates and the monitoring of development,
    integration and validation activities
  • Supporting the operations preparations for future MetOp spacecraft
  • Attendance at technical meetings
  • Participation in formal reviews

The consultant will also be expected to:

  • Participate in the preparations for GMES (Sentinel-3)
  • Participate in instrument data processing activities for the EUMETSAT Geostationary
    spacecraft (MSG/MTP)

 Ihr Profil

In addition to having a University degree (or equivalent) in a relevant discipline, the
Consultant shall have at least 3 years experience with:

  • Ground segment operations for polar orbiting spacecraft
  • Real-time acquisition and processing, in a complex operational environment, of image
    and/or sounder data from remote sensing spacecraft
  • Monitoring of and reporting on the status of an instrument data processing system
    (system performance and product availability and quality).
  • UNIX

Furthermore, it would be a distinct advantage for the Consultant to have experience with
some of the following:

  • Communications protocols (e.g. TCP/IP, MBSS)
  • Consultative Committee for Space Data Systems (CCSDS) formats
  • IDL, Python, Perl, Oracle
  • Image Navigation and Registration of images from remote sensing spacecraft
  • Radiometric correction of images from remote sensing spacecraft
  • Imaging and/or sounding instrumentation for remote sensing spacecraft

The Consultant shall be able to conduct all activities in an orderly and disciplined manner,
shall be able to work calmly and correctly under stress and must be able to work with the
minimum of supervision.

The official languages of EUMETSAT are English and French. The working language for
the position is English and therefore the consultant must be able to work effectively in this
language and have knowledge of the other. Good communication skills are also required.
